Kenneth Cupp
Venice, Utah
Kenneth Weldon Cupp, 96, our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, our hero, patriot and friend to all, left this world on November 21, 2018 at his home in Venice for his heavenly home. He is leaving a huge presence in this world with his children, grand and great-grandchildren. He was born September 27, 1922 in LaPlata, Missouri, to Floyd D and Hazel Harrison Cupp.
Dad married Leona Anna Buhrke on May 20, 1950 in her hometown of Brookfield, Illinois. Four children would arrive, one every two years, due to his long deployment out to sea. In the years that followed, we were country kids in the city, until Dad could move us to the country and taught us about raising a huge garden, fruit trees and butchering our own animals. Mom preceded him in death May 5, 1996.
Dad loved to hunt and fish, and could be ready in a moment’s notice when someone mentioned fishing. He participate in the mountain man rendezvous throughout adjoining states. Dad was very strong in his beliefs of his Christian faith, and worshiped regularly at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He held many positions in his church throughout the years.
He was very proud of his years of service in the Navy and never bragged about what he had been through. He attended many ship reunions with his fellow sailors. Many medals he has received and proudly displayed in his home. He was considered a tri-war vet, serving early in Vietnam, Korean War and World War II. Recently, he went on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. He had to check to see if he was listed in the archives, which he was. That made him happy.
Most will remember him for his love of the desert and riding his VW sand rail through the trails and bowls. He was known by many at Little Sahara and we called him "Dune Daddy", but most people called him Grandpa Cupp, no matter their age.
For the last 10 years he has shared so many fun times traveling and camping with his companion, Luann Hale. The family is truly grateful for her.
Dad is survived by his children: Dennis (Alana) Cupp, Janice (George) Mynar, Susan (George) Steiger, and Daniel (Kerri) Cupp; 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He is also preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Evone Stevens.
