Keith Willden Young, 92, of Sterling, passed away July 6, 2012. Born in Widstoe, Utah, April 10, 1920, the 4th of 8 children of John Wesley and Minnie Irene Willden Young. During his teen years his family moved to Marion in Summit County where he met and dated Erma Andrus.
Keith served in WWII in the South Pacific theater. He later trained in the profession of upholstery. After the war, married his sweetheart Erma Andrus June 27, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. Faithful in the gospel, devoted to his family and always treasured the fact that he and Erma were married for eternity.
Keith resided in Provo, Orem, Hunter, Tabiona, and Sterling, Utah. Served in many church callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including bishop, high councilor, and stake missionary. Also served as an ordinance worker in the Manti Temple. He and his wife served missions at Cove Fort, and as directors of the Idaho Falls Visitors’ Center.
Keith was a former mayor of Sterling. He owned and operated his business Keith’s Upholstery in Sterling, then in Manti 22 years, during which time he served a term as president of the Manti Business Association.
Children of Keith and Erma are Robert and Wynn Young, Sterling; Brian and Rebecca Young, Pima, AZ; Irene Y. Allred, Cleveland; Clive and Kristy Young, Kaysville; Anita and Colby Wight, Orem; Lyle and Julie Young, Gunnison; Edward and Maxine Young; Orem; foster children: Ronald and Lenora Bowman, Layton; Emery Bowman, Chicago, IL; 33 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents; a sister, two brothers, and a son-in-law.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sterling Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the chapel in Sterling Wednesday from 6:00 to7:30 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial in the Sterling Cemetery with miltiary rites by the Manti American Legion Post #31.
