Keith Thomas Wirtz, 65, died at his home in Fremont on January 3, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 12, 1949 in Salt Lake City to Thomas William and Virginia Davies Wirtz. He spent his childhood in the wilds of Murray and loved every minute of it.
He married Dawneen Garret in 1972, later divorced. They had three children: Jeffery Thomas (deceased in infancy), Tiffany Marie, and Nicholas Wirtz.
He married Margene Taylor, December 1, 1990 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had 24 wonderful years together.
Keith worked at Wonder Bread for 17 years. He moved to Fremont in August 1994 and became a cheese maker. He later became a butcher, security guard in Mesquite NV, and a chef at The Lodge at Red River Ranch. He started driving an 18-wheeler in 1999 and thoroughly enjoyed it. He traveled to 47 of the lower 48 states. He loved to hunt and fish, especially ice fishing.
Keith received new life on May 21, 2010 when he received a liver transplant at IHC in Salt Lake City. He was so very thankful for these extra years to spend with family and friends.
Keith was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as a Primary teacher, ward clerk, scout leader and teacher of the high priest’s group.
Survived by his wife, Margene; children: Tiffany Wirtz, West Valley City; and Nicholas Wirtz (Katie Campbell), Ronon, MT; former daughter-in-law, Neffy Nunley, West Valley City; six grandchildren; sisters: Christina (John) Fillmore, Provo; and Teressa (Kent) Anderson, Sandy.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Fremont LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Fremont Cemetery.
