George Kay Staples, age 82, passed away at his home in Richfield, UT on July 4, 2017. Kay was born on August 25, 1934, the 10th of 13 children of Elva and Delilah Washburn Staples in Central Valley, UT. His father passed away when Kay was 9 years old. The family came together to run the farm. He graduated from South Sevier High School.

Kay married Jauna Mae Robinson on September 15, 1954 in the Manti Temple. They were blessed with one daughter, Kay Lynne. Juana passed away February 26, 1972.

Kay then married Maxine Louise Young on August 24, 1972 in the Manti Temple. She brought a son, Tracy, into the marriage which Kay later adopted. Together they were blessed with another son, Tyson. Maxine passed away December 20, 1976.

Kay later married Melody Snyder on February 8, 1992 in the Provo Temple. Together they made 2 of Kay’s dreams come true by building a cabin on Cove Mountain and enjoying a cruise to Alaska.

Kay was a faithful member of the LDS Church where he served as a scout leader and had fond memories of the 50 mile hike and the boys he worked with.

He served in the Utah National Guard and Army Reserves. He was a member of the Lion’s Club for many years and served as president for one term.

Kay was a Fish and Game Officer at Fish Lake and owned and operated the Texaco gas station in Richfield, UT. He also sold Arctic Cat snowmobiles and his adventuring spirit lead him to racing snowmobiles which he dearly loved. Kay is most known for his perfectionism as a professional mason & tile layer.

Kay loved his music. He played the guitar and sang. He blessed many lives with his talent by playing with the Old Time Fiddlers, and with a band that played at the Cowboy Corral and Salina Seniors. He also enjoyed entertaining at the Richfield Care Center and Stonehenge.

Kay loved the mountains, wildlife, gardening, hunting, fishing, hiking, geo-caching, and family.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Melody; daughter, Kay Lynne Hall, Phoenix, AZ; sons, Tracy, Hurricane, UT and Tyson (Larissa), Payson, UT; brothers: Terrill Staples, Ronnie (LaRene) Staples, both St. George; sisters: Mary D Powell, and Carol (June) Jensen, both Richfield, UT; Elnora (Kenneth) Mason, Elk Ridge, UT; Louisa (Fred) Swain, Salem, UT; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren.

Also preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Vance, Sylvan and Leon Staples; sisters, Orene Zobell, Glenda Hawley and Gloria Roberts.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Magleby Mortuary Chapel. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. or Saturday morning 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery with military rites by the V.F.W.
