Katherine Mary "Katie" Calaway Peralta, 23, returned to her Heavenly Father on December 29, 2016. She was kindhearted and gentle, loved for her genuine and soft-spoken nature. Katie was deeply devoted to her young son and was seeking to give him a wonderful future.

Katie was born on July 19, 1993 in Provo, UT to Carl James Calaway and Caterina Carlson. She grew up in Utah Valley and graduated with high honors from Pleasant Grove High School in May, 2011. Katie married Richard Peralta on December 21, 2012 while attending Arizona State University, where she graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s of science degree in Biology. On September 23, 2015 Katie was blessed with a baby boy, Jacob. Katie was utilizing her degree as she worked at ARUP Laboratories at the University of Utah.

Katie is survived by her young son, Jacob; parents: Carl James (Andrea) Calaway and Caterina (Trish Williams) Klinzing; brothers and sisters: Cory (Nicole) Calaway, Steven Calaway, Steven Mortenson, Rachel (Matt) Clements, Andrew Mortenson, Krissy Mortenson, Daniel Mortenson, Makayla Calaway, and Vincent Calaway; grandparents, Jim Calaway, Donna Robins, Alvin and Beverly Carlson, Clark and Ruth Clayson, and Jerry and Sharon Mortenson; niece and nephew: Aria, Mason, and Samuel.

Katie was preceded in death by a grandmother, Karen Calaway; and cousins, Jared Andrews and Kaitlyn Hansen.

We love and miss Katie, and her loss will be felt for many years to come. We greatly appreciate the outpouring of support and prayers from friends, family and the community during this time.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 6, 2017 at 11:00 am in the Lindon 20th Ward Chapel, 56 East 600 North, Lindon, Utah, where friends may call Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and on Friday morning from 9:30 – 10:30.
