Kathy Larsen Darquea

Dr. Katharine Larsen Darquea passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with cancer on Friday, April 27, 2012, in Santaquin, UT.
She was born in Richfield, Utah, September 2, 1957. As a young child she moved to the Rio Grande Valley in south Texas, where she grew up. She loved Texas so much, that she always moved back whenever she could.
Kathy was valedictorian and Student Body President of Edinburg High School where she graduated in 1976. She attended Texas Woman’s University, Brigham Young University and received her Bachelors Degree from the University of Texas, Austin.
She graduated from medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston as the highest ranked female graduate and performed her residency, specializing in cardiac anesthesia. Her work career took her to Denton, TX; Owensboro, KY; Harlingen and Texarkana, TX.
She married Francisco Darquea on May 29, 1999 and was sealed to him in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple.
She served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Milan, Italy. She enjoyed studying Church History and visiting Church historical sites. She particularly loved the temple and genealogy and served as a temple ordinance worker in the Dallas Temple.
Kathy was very athletic enjoying tennis, racquetball, scuba- diving, and bicycling. She loved to travel and especially enjoyed her trip to the Holy Land. She loved animals and supported animal causes; she especially loved her cats. She was a loving aunt and very generous to friends and family.
She is survived by her husband, Francisco Darquea; mother, Melba P. Larsen; siblings: Christine Hildreth, Dillon, MT; Charles (Leanne) Larsen, Littleton, CO; Ann (Greg) Kator, Meridian, ID; Daniel "Bud" (Dalynda) Larsen, Temecula, CA and Tom (Jenifer) Larsen, Santaquin, UT. She was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Birch Larsen.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 4, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. in the Santaquin LDS Stake Center, 45 South 500 West, Santaquin. Friends may call at the stake center on Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery, Provo, UT.
