Karma Jean Kay Vikari, 73, of Springville, UT, peacefully returned to her heavenly home on Saturday, March 1st, 2014. Karma Jean was born June 5, 1940 in Logan, Utah to loving parents, Dr. F. Arthur Kay and Eunice N. Kay; the eldest of five daughters.
She was gifted with good health, a keen intellect and a quick wit. Karma was endowed with an extraordinary gift for music - a prodigy in her own right. Music became a live-long passion. Over the years, Karma Jean’s rich musical talents were trained and expanded through countless hours of practice and meticulous rehearsal, both voice and piano. Although well-qualified professionally, she would never perform on the prestigious stages of grand opera houses around the world. She chose family over fame.
Karma Jean Kay married her sweetheart, Christian Vikari, in the Salt Lake City Utah Temple, September 21, 1959. For 55 mortal years, Karma was a faithful and loving wife, friend, companion and caregiver to her husband. She was his supporting bedrock and he her anchor. He preceded her in death February 21, 2013.
Home became the stage and her self-accompanied grand vocal performances were delivered to an audience of immediate family and friends. Over the years, her audience grew.
Embracing the melodies of motherhood, Karma welcomed six children into her home. Karma Jean taught her children both to love the Lord and how to manage the more practical matters of life like cooking, housecleaning, laundry, ironing and of course music appreciation. She suffered greatly with tragic and premature losses of a young daughter in 1974 and a grown son in 2011.
Regardless of deep and difficult obstacles, Karma kept the faith and adhered to the principal of the Plan of Salvation and the mission of Jesus Christ. "O Divine Redeemer" is her faith-filled testimony sang in her angelic voice which echoes through the eternities. A life-long faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Karma faithfully served in numerous leadership positions. She also served as a patient loving support to her husband as he strove to magnify his numerous callings within the Church.
Late in life, crippling osteoarthritis could only take her physical ability to play piano and sing, though was powerless to dampen the music that coursed through her soul. Karma Jean Kay Vikari now has her chance to "...sing one more." She loved these words:
"Climb every mountain...
Search high and low,
Follow every byway,
Every path you know.
Climb every mountain,
Ford every stream,
Follow every rainbow,
‘Till you find your dream."
Karma Jean Kay Vikari will be sorely missed. She is survived by daughters: Heidi Ann Vikari Ehlen, Gina Marie Vikari Moore and Kathryn Kay Vikari; son, Jeffrey Todd Vikari; daughter-in-law, Valine Tobler Vikari; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Springville Spring Creek 7th LDS Ward Chapel, 235 East 500 North, where friends may call from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Annabella Utah Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon..
