Karen Rasmussen
Redmond, Utah
Our beloved mother, grandma, sister, and aunt, Karen Hatch Rasmussen, 73, left this life for her eternal one, on November 2, 2014, after a long battle with dementia. She passed with her loving family at her side at the Community Living Center in Centerfield. Karen was born on May 25, 1941 to George Smith and Bessie Larsen Hatch in Manti. She married Wendell Rasmussen in June of 1961 in the Manti Temple and had five wonderful children. They later divorced.
The love and delight of her life was her Savior, her family, and her grandchildren. Karen was a proud member of the LDS Church and had many callings included stake and ward camp director, Primary teacher, counselor and secretary in the Relief Society, ward historian and librarian, and always served as a visiting teacher. She earned a cosmetology license and loved taking art classes. She loved to draw and created unique Christmas cards for her family for many years. She also enjoyed sewing and crafts for the grandkids. She shared her art work and told stories and loved doing anything with her family. She served many years as a judge of elections, in several capacities in the DUP, and at the St. George and Manti Temples. She also spent many years employed at DSPD. And she was honorably released after many years, and before she wanted to be, from both a family history mission and as an ordinance worker in the Manti Temple.
Karen is survived by her children: Kardell (Pat) Rasmussen, Redmond; Rachelle (Sam) Syphrett, Richfield; Angela (Paul) Peterson, Centerfield; Gayelene (Larry) Henrikson, DeKalb, IL; and Jered (Jessica) Rasmussen, Redmond. She is grandmother to 20 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Also survived by brothers: Kevin (Laurie) Hatch and David (Anja) Hatch; and sisters: Joan Penrod, Edyth (DeVon) Jensen, and Dawn (Royce) Gibson; and in-laws: Shirley, Jerilyn Ron, Marge, Becky and Elaine.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Smith and Bessie; in-laws: Philo and Velma; brother, Dean Hatch; brother-in-law, Ardis Penrod; and grandson, Clint Rasmussen.
The family extends their appreciation to Centerfield Community Living Center and to the Angela Peterson family for the love and care given to Karen.
