Karalyn Hermansen
Gunnison, Utah
Karalyn Louise Christiansen Hermansen, 88, passed away on March 8, 2024, in the Gunnison Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born November 8, 1935, to Reed and Aleda Christiansen in Mayfield.
She graduated from Manti High School on May 21, 1954. She then attended Westminster College and St. Mark’s Hospital to get her degree as a registered nurse. She worked at St. Mark’s Hospital for 6 months and then returned to Gunnison to work at Gunnison Valley Hospital for many years. Surgery was her favorite part of nursing.
She married Redge Hermansen in the Manti Temple on December 27, 1957. They were blessed with four wonderful children, one of which was stillborn. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Karalyn was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held callings in Relief Society and Primary. Her favorite job was being on the funeral luncheon committee for over 20 years. She was an active member of the Jaycettes. She loved helping with the annual deer hunt bake sales and sewing clothes for the doll that was given away each Christmas. She enjoyed making candy, dipping chocolates, and sharing them with family and friends. She spent countless hours playing cards with friends.
She was able to work side by side with her sweetheart, Redge, at Hermansen’s Mill for many years. She was a very generous person and started the Redge and Karalyn Hermansen Scholarship Fund in 2014. Each year a senior from Manti High School and Gunnison High School was awarded this scholarship.
Karalyn is survived by her children: Kathy and Kelly Frandsen, Pam and Larry Lund, Scott and Mallory Hermansen; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way; sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Julian Anderson; and sister-in-law, June Presser.
