Julina Christensen

Julina Pickett Christensen, 94, of Mayfield, passed away October 5, 2012 at the Community Living Center in Centerfield. She was born May 29, 1918 in Gunnison to John Earl and Lettie LaVern Stevens Pickett. The third of nine children, she grew up in the Gunnison Valley and graduated from Gunnison High School and the Kester School of Dressmaking in Salt Lake City.
She married Croft Peter Christensen of Mayfield March 6, 1939, and they were sealed in the Manti Temple, June 26, 1939. He preceded her in death, August 16, 2000. They had two sons, Wayne Croft and Brent Earl. They lived in Mayfield and farmed.
Julina’s life was a life of service. She was a 4-H leader for 30 years and taught many of the area girls to sew. She was an excellent seamstress and made many items of clothing, beautiful quilts and crocheted items. She served as voting registrar and judge of elections for many years. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many callings including president of MIA and the Relief Society, and taught in Primary and Sunday School.
She worked for the Pacific Trails Coat Factory in Manti and cooked for the South Sanpete School District for nine years.
She is survived by her sons: Wayne C (Sandra) Christensen, Wenatchee, WA; and Brent E. (Susan) Christensen, Circleville; 12 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; sisters: Celia Jensen, Gunnison; Edith Tripp, Monroe; brother, Newell (Nola) Pickett, Gunnison; sister-in-law, Verna Pickett, Stansbury Park.
Also preceded in death by parents; sisters: LaRue (Harold) Hugoe, Beryl (Glen) Christensen; brothers, Owen (Mary) Pickett, David Pickett, Keith Pickett; brothers-in-law: Shirley Petersen, Miles Jensen, Ross Tripp.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 12:00 Noon in the Mayfield Ward Chapel, where friends may call from 10:00 to 11:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Mayfield Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
