Our sweet, gentle mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Julia Smith Brugger, 88, passed away April 30, 2012 in Monroe. Julie Christine Smith was born October 19, 1923 in Richfield to Clarence and Ida Smith. She married Raphael G. Brugger on December 23, 1942. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. They were married for 62 years when he preceded her in death December 25, 2004.
Our mom loved many things in life. Knitting—she taught the skill to many. Cooking—best homemade bread and scones in the state. Mom loved bridge, music, dancing with Dad, aspen trees, baby lambs, autumn leaves, every dog and cat she ever owned and even some she didn’t own; but most of all she loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She gave each of us our own special memories.
Mom is survived by her children: Geoffrey Brugger, Julie Lynn (Joe) Martinez, Bill (Becki) Brugger, Kristine (Howard) Marcroft and Michael (Kristy) Brugger; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Mona Lou Erlewine; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters and brother: Coral Buchanan, Utahna Hansen, Bud Black; grandsons: Phillip Martinez and Michael Julius.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Monroe Assisted Living and their staff for the special kindness they showed our mother.
