Juel Parker, Las Vegas, NV
Dr. Juel A Parker, was born on December 11, 1926, in Monroe, Utah, and passed away in Las Vegas, NV, on January 26, 2024, at the age of 97. He was predeceased by wife, Darlene Openshaw Parker; his parents, Harold and Gladys Parker; and nine of his ten siblings: Geraldine (Pete), Jackie, Robert (Hal), Bonnie, Colleen, Peggy, Sally, George Rex (Sam), and Gordon (Chesley).
He is survived by his 6 children: Brent (Julie) Parker, Karen (Steve) Thomas, Lisa Parker (Irwin Simon), Brian (Lindee) Parker, Bruce (Renee) Parker, Julie Parker (Joe) Weisiger; and 22 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren; and his sister Patsy.
Dr. Parker grew up on the farm in Joseph, Utah where he learned hard work and ingenuity. He joined the Navy in 1946, where they put him in charge of training all the new recruits in San Diego. Thereafter, he attended BYU, where he met Darlene and fell in love at first sight. Juel and Darlene were married in the Salt Lake Temple on October 5, 1949. Juel attended dental school at the University of the Pacific, in San Francisco, and later attended Mayo Clinic, in Rochester Minnesota, where he got his oral surgery degree in 1964. He began his oral surgery practice in Las Vegas in 1965, where he was beloved by his many patients who referred to him as “Painless Parker.”
Dr. Parker had a lifelong passion of raising and racing thoroughbreds, where he could often be found at the racetrack with his wife and children cheering with him. Dr. Parker loved his family, and the gospel. Dr. Parker held many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, yet his favorite calling was when he and Darlene served a senior mission in Perth Australia from 2000-2002.
When they returned home, they continued their legacy of loving and serving family and friends. Dr. Parker loved his farm and home in Joseph Utah. He always said Joseph was “two blocks from heaven.” Dr. Parker made a difference to so many people he influenced for good. He will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 2, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. PST in the Town Center Ward, 7800 W Alta Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89145, where friends may call from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in the Monroe Utah Cemetery with military honors.
