Joyce Smith
Monroe, Utah
Joyce Marie Rowden Smith, 88, passed through the veil at 8:16 a.m. on September 30, 2018 at her home in Monroe, after complications of hip surgery. She was born February 16, 1930 at Mattoon, Coles, Illinois to James Austin Rowden and Vida Mae Weingand. When she was seven years old, her parents moved to Denver, Colorado, where she attended public schools. And one year at Richmond, California while living with a grandmother.
Her parents moved to a residence northeast of Parker, Colorado in 1945, and were snow bound in a horrible snow storm in November 1946. The following year, the family moved to an old residence that belonged to Ottis Smith northwest of Parker, of which she made the acquaintance of Donald Smith, and they fell into love. They were married April 5, 1948 by the Justice of the Peace at Castle Rock, Douglas, Colorado. At this time, they made this old home into their home as Donald was working with his father on a large dairy farm. It was here that she gave birth to her three of her four children. The family moved to Englewood, Colorado in 1951. In 1958, the family moved to Collbran, Mesa, Colorado. This is where the family joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on July 29,1961. On July 21, 1964, Joyce and Donald’s marriage was solemnized and their children sealed to them in the Manti Temple.
Being a city girl, Joyce learned to milk cows with machines, she learned to drive farm tractors, she learned to drive farm trucks, she was also great in helping in our trucking venture, and a precious homemaker.
January 1969, the family moved to Monroe, Sevier, Utah, where we have lived the balance of our lives.
