Joseph "Joe" Conway Peterson, 88, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and one of America’s "Greatest Generation" passed away quietly at the Veterans Administration Nursing Home on June 17, 2011. Joe was the sixth child of eight children born to Bertrand Peterson and Rosa Goulding Peterson of Boulder, Utah on February 5, 1923. He spent his growing up years living in Boulder. He attended Escalante High School and in 1941 enlisted in the United State Merchant Marine Corps. He served in the Pacific Theater of World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945.
He married Myrna Clayson in 1982.
Joe, otherwise known as Conway, among family and friends of Boulder, was a cowboy, a lathe operator, a truck driver and foreman for Powder River Corporation in Provo before his retirement. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He loved his wife and all their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved to dance; he loved to go to Boulder; he loved to putter around old cars.
He is survived by his wife Myrna, and their children Bert (Kelly) Peterson, Joann Boltis, Sheldon Peterson, Sheila (Keith) Webster, Sharon Young, Jana (Glen) Hardy, Craig (Kim) Clayson and Corey (Ellen) Clayson; 24 grandchildren & 34 great grandchildren; brothers: Darwin (Flora) Peterson and Garth (Lois) Peterson. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; four older sisters and one older brother.
The family wants to thank the nurses and staff at the VA Nursing Home for the compassionate care they extended to Joe during his stay.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 25, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. in the Richfield City Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
