John W. Myers, Jr.

Elsinore, Utah

John William Myers, Jr., 66, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2015, at his home in Elsinore, surrounded by loved ones. He was born June 9, 1949 in Salt Lake City, Utah to John William and Helen Jacobsen Myers.

John grew up in the Salt Lake City and Summit Park, Utah. He was employed with the Salt Lake City Watershed for 30 years as a Senior Enforcement Officer. He married Becky Lomax in 1974 and had two children, John and Amy. John and Becky later divorced but remained life-long friends. In 1990 John married Janet "Susie" Larsen of Park City Utah. Susie preceded him in death, as did his parents, brothers, and his beloved sister Eddie.

John served our country as a Navy Seabee in Vietnam. After a negative welcome home, it took decades before John felt proud of his service and honored for his sacrifice. After retirement, he moved to Sevier County and settled in his home in Elsinore. He was a kind and compassionate man, always taking care of those less fortunate. He was an extremely skilled wood-worker and shared many of his pieces with those around him.

He is survived by his son, John W. Myers IV (Shelly Christensen); daughter, Amy J. Myers (Vernon Stephens); sister, Victoria C. Cooper; and Joey (Shanna) Cote, a close family friend whom John considered a son. Surviving step-children are Amy (Earl) Gleason, Melinda Larsen (Dan Young), and Tony Larsen. John had 10 grandchildren who he loved very much.

John made the most of his life, living it on his own terms right until the end. He is loved deeply by everyone lucky enough to have crossed his path and share a laugh. The world was John’s stage, and those present were his audience. The unique impact he had on our lives will never be forgotten.

"Let me be by myself in the evenin’ breeze

And listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees

Send me off forever but I ask you please

Don’t fence me in."

At his request, cremation services have taken place. Graveside services will be held at a later date, as determined by family.

In lieu of flowers, John would love to help homeless cats.
