John L. Meacham, 72, former Sevier County Sheriff, passed away July 9, 2012 in Provo, Utah. John was born October 3, 1939 in Sigurd to Ossil and Iola Gleave Meacham. He married Sherry Ann Powell, May 25, 1958 in Las Vegas, NV.
The family have fun memories of horses, riding up at Boobie Hole Mountain and camping. He enjoyed going on the “Central Utah Deer Hunt” every year.
John has served in law enforcement his entire life. Beginning his career as a Richfield City Officer, was with the Utah Highway Patrol from 1963 to 1983. He later served a successful career with Sevier County as Sheriff. He was a member of the Utah Peace Officers Association and served a term as president of the Utah Sheriff’s Association.
He is survived by his wife Sherry Powell Meacham; children, Kerry Meacham, Kelly Corry and Kory Meacham all of Richfield; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Dean (Trish) Meacham of Glenwood, Douglas (Beverly) Meacham of Monroe, Rula (Terry) Thompson of Austin, Ron (Florene) Meacham of Sigurd, Bruce (Shirley) Mason of West Jordan, Karen Booth of Herriman, Leona (Paul) Foster of California and Ester Ingram of Gunnison.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Edna Montaque.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the Richfield East LDS Stake Center, 805 North 500 East. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary in Richfield on Friday evening from 6 to 8 and at the stake center on Saturday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery with Honors provided by Richfield City Police Dept, Sevier County Sheriff’s Office and the Utah Highway Patrol
