Bob Mattinson

Tremonton/Monroe

John Robert "Bob" Mattinson, 73, husband to Geraldine Dunn Mattinson, passed away at home in Tremonton on Friday May 27, 2016 after a lengthy struggle with debilitating neurological diseases. With the enduring love and aid of his wife, he bore his challenges valiantly. Bob, spelled the same backwards and forwards, as he liked to quip, and as he liked to be called, was born October 10, 1942 in Payson, Utah to Joseph Robert and Geneva Winn Mattinson. His childhood home was in Eureka, Utah and all though the family later moved to the big city of Pleasant Grove, he always remained a small town sort of guy.

His early adult life included service in the United States Army serving in Korea. After completion of his service in the army, Bob and Gerry were married on May 11, 1964 in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of four children, J Robert (Laurie) Mattinson, Mischell (Norm) Bendtsen, Rodney (Cyndie) Mattinson, Joseph Richard "Rick" (Karla) Mattinson. Because of his love of small, country places, and his love of horses, especially BeeBee, they made their homes in places like Draper, Vernal and Monroe, Utah where he worked very hard to provide for his family and where he enjoyed many good saddle horses and hunting and fishing whenever he could. He volunteered for years to coach little league baseball and basketball.

Bob, developed a strong testimony of God the Father, of the Savior, Jesus Christ and in the plan that God has for His children. He often recognized the beautiful things of this world as a testimony and evidence of God and of God's love. He served faithfully in many capacities, including home teacher, scouts, Elder's quorums and two bishoprics. He endured to the very end in his faith.

Bob is survived by his loving wife; children; 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; as well as a sister, Patsy (Doug) Adams. He is now enjoying a great reunion with his parents; sisters: Delilah Walters, Margene Marchbanks and Darlene Burgi; and brothers: Donald Walters, Larry Rudd and Rosco Wayne Mattinson; and great-granddaughter, Kashlynn Chase Mattinson who each preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 3, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Central Valley 2 nd Ward where friends may call from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Eureka Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. with military rites. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
