Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, John Leonard Holmes, 73, passed away at his home in Richfield after a lingering illness.
He was born September 13, 1938 in Ontario, Oregon to Gunnar L and Mable Irene Brown Holmes. He married LaVelle Parratt, November 8, 1957 in Couley Dam, Washington. The marriage was solemnized August 26, 1960 in the Salt Lake Temple.
John worked many years traveling the country as a sales representative for various companies. The family referred to him as the “traveling ambassador of sales”. They resided in the Salt Lake area for 38 years. Upon retirement, he and LaVelle settled in Richfield.
He enjoyed photography and created small outdoor dioramas, he also loved to be in the mountains fishing. He was an avid Jazz and BYU fan.
John served in the U.S. Marine Corps, was a Utah State Representative for the Republican party and was an active member of the LDS Church, serving faithfully wherever he was called to serve, including an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple.
His survivors include his wife, LaVelle of Richfield; children: David Lynn (Teresa) Holmes of Salt Lake City, Eric Bryan (Heidi) Holmes of Bountiful, Craig Leonard (Cindee) Holmes of Kaysville, Cynthia LaVelle (Adam) Taylor of Las Vegas, NV, Kimberly Marie (Mark) Adams of Post Falls, ID, Linda Kay (Eric) Jensen of Logan, Alysia Ann (Brad) Peterson of Highland, Melissa Nadine (Jason) Imlay, Justin Paul (Jessica) Holmes of Blackfoot, ID; 30 Grandchildren; 10 Great-grandchldren; sister, Margaret Ann (Roger) Wert Louden, TN.
He is preceded in death by his parents; grandchildren, Seth Adam Taylor and Cameron Jensen.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 12:00 Noon in the Richfield 8th LDS Ward Chapel, 810 North 500 East. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary, 50 South 100 West in Richfield on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 and at the ward chapel on Thursday morning from 10:30 to11:30. Burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 25, 2012 in the Logan City Cemetery with military rites provided by the Utah Honor Guard.
