John Lewis Harrison, 84, completed his journey on this earth and returned to his Father in Heaven on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 in Richfield. He was born March 29, 1932 to John and Hazel Harrison in Lexington, VA. He is the eldest child of 3 children. He achieved his high school diploma through the military and later graduated from Cerritos College with an Associate of Arts Degree in Administration of Justice.

John served in the United States Air Force from1951-1955, flying SA16’s and B17’s as an Airborne Radio Operator. He was stationed in Hawaii and it was at this time that he met his beautiful bride, Carol Joyce Shepherd. They were civilly married on June 6, 1953 in the Hickam Air Force Base Chapel in Hawaii. John joined the LDS Church in 1970 and on June 12, 1973, they were married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles Temple in California.

After John retired from the military, he attended the Radio Institute School in SLC, Utah; then he and his wife moved to California in1956, where he worked for Northrop Aircraft. In 1957, they settled in Norwalk, California and in 1959, John joined the Los Angeles Police Department and served in Training, Hollenbeck, Lincoln Heights Jail, Accident Investigation, Traffic Enforcement and South Traffic Divisions. He worked for the LAPD for a total of 28 years, with 22 of those years being a motorcycle officer. During their years in Norwalk, they were blessed with four rambunctious boys who kept them on their toes. John retired from the LAPD in 1987 with a PII-II ranking. In 1989, they purchased a home in Annabella, Utah, where John spent most of his summers, enjoying the beautiful outdoors. Sitting by the water and tossing in a line to catch "the big one" was his favorite pastime. In 1993, they sold their home in CA and made Annabella, Utah their final residence.

John was a generous, kind and caring man. If you needed something, he was always willing to help. He was very talented and loved woodworking. He enjoyed spending many hours perfecting the wood projects he was creating. He was an enthusiastic gardener and went the extra mile to build a beautiful and prosperous garden each year. John loved a good road trip, especially if it involved sightseeing and camping. He also loved sports, hunting and fishing, but fishing was his true passion. Many wonderful memories were made with family and friends on the hunting and fishing trips they took.

John is survived by his loving wife, Carol; his four sons, John Harrison (former spouse, Michelle); Annabella; Brad Harrison, Annabella; Adam Harrison, CA; and Cory (Celeste) Harrison, CA; grandchildren: Braeden (Kim), Emerald, Kayla, Jonathan "Scooter" (Brittny), Alexsys, Carolyn, Joseph, Amanda and Holly; great-grandchildren: Kaygen, Jaxxon, Karsen, Jace, Braily and Makinzie; brother, Lionel (Alyce) Harrison, VA; and sister, Alese Snavely, CA.

John will now be able to enjoy a beautiful reunion with his parents, both parents-in-law, his brothers-in-law: Bob Snavely, LaVere (Frances) Brady; and numerous other family and friends made during his time on this earth.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Annabella 2nd Ward Church, 89 North 100 East in Annabella. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday at the ward chapel in Annabella from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. Burial will be at the Annabella Cemetery with military rites by V.F.W. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

As a tribute to the beginning of their life together, Carol has requested the services be held with a Hawaiian atmosphere and bright colors be worn.

A special thank you to the care givers with Hospice and Richfield Care Center, who helped care for John during his last few years, and to the friends that have stepped forward and shown so much love, care and concern.
