John D. Hansen

John David Hansen, 61, loving husband, father and grandfather, died July 13, 2014 after valiantly battling abdominal cancer; he passed away peacefully at his Colorado Springs home surrounded by his family.
John was born in Richfield, Utah November 11, 1952 to Elbert Dewane and Donna Spafford Hansen. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Electrical Engineering from Brigham Young University. John honorably served a full-time proselyting mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Great Lakes region. John married his sweetheart, Willa Jean Fairbank, in the Manti Temple and has considered himself blessed beyond measure for the last 35 years.
John volunteered for UNESCO in Romania prior to excelling at Hewlett Packard/Agilent Technologies, as an Engineer Scientist, in Colorado Springs until his retirement. He also ran a consulting business, The Wandering Mind.
John was a member of IEEE, holds multiple patents, served in his community and in his church, especially as a bishop and a teacher. John will be remembered for his inexhaustible service to those in need and for his brilliant mind.
In addition to his wife, Willa, John leaves behind his four children: Nathanael (Kim) Hansen, Carl Hansen and Emily Hansen, all of Colorado Springs, Allison (Nathan) Howe of Ft. Morgan, CO; eight grandchildren: Brandon Hansen, Zoey Hansen, Ryan Hansen, Zachary Hansen, Max Hansen, Phineas Howe, Elijah Howe and Adele Howe. John is also survived by his mother, Donna Spafford Hansen of Richfield; brother, James (Randi) Hansen of Henderson, NV; sisters, Emalee (Calvin) Curtis of Monroe, Sue Ann Curtis of Murray, Donna Louese Downing of Boulder, CO, and Mary Carole (Kimble) Blackburn of Bountiful, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Elbert; brother, Carl James Hansen; and two brothers in law, Neal Curtis, John Downing.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Ward Chapel located at 8710 Lexington Drive, Colorado Springs, CO. Friends may call to visit with the family from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services.
