Joe Mayer

Salina, Utah

On May 14, 2017, Joe L. Mayer, 81, fell asleep peacefully in death, surrounded by his family, in Centerfield, Utah. He finished his long, good humored fight with infirmities incident to age. Joe was born in Orange, California, on December 26, 1935, to Henry and Marie Carpenter Mayer. He graduated from Cal Poly Horse Shoeing School on December 14, 1956, and continued to shoe horses to support himself on the way to a degree in Agronomy and Range Management.

He married Carol J. Smith on April 26, 1958, in Madjeska, CA, and they remained happily married until his passing. Joe worked at different occupations throughout his life, but eventually returned to the love he had for horses. He retired as a farrier, admired for his strong focus on quality and his pursuit of perfection in his work.

Joe was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and was sustained by his strong faith through life's difficulties.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol; sons: Dan (Betty) Mayer, Ephraim, UT; Lee (Tracy) Mayer, Orange, CA; daughter, Marie (Randall) Lister, Annabella, UT; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Rex James Mayer; and his parents.

A special thanks is extended to Mission at Community Service in Centerfield UT for caring for Joe in his last days.

Cremation services have been held. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 615 S. 200 W. In Richfield. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti. Online guestbook at www.maglebymortuary.com
