Our hearts are heavy as we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sweetheart, sister, and friend, JoAnn Sorensen, at the age of 72. JoAnn departed this world surrounded by her loving family and sweetheart on September 11, 2024 in St. Marks Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She was born on April 7, 1952 in Gunnison, UT to Horace and Afton Sorensen. JoAnn spent her formative years in Mayfield, UT alongside her sister and 3 brothers. She graduated from Gunnison High School and later became a dental assistant.
She married Steven Otten in 1973 with which she shared the blessing of six children. Later divorced. JoAnn then found her sweetheart, Stephen James in 2010 who she shared the remainder of her beautiful life with.
JoAnn is survived by her sweetheart Stephen James; her children: Jared (Misty) Otten, Shelly (Matt) LeBaron, Stacey (Nick) Lyon, Ashley (Lloyd) Lyons, Cassie (Allen Beal) Crane; brothers: Harvey Sorensen and Phillip Sorensen; 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter Nicole Otten; her parents; siblings: Paul Sorensen and Norma Taylor.
Her family will hold a small graveside service for close family in her honor on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at 12:00 Noon in the Mayfield Cemetery.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the compassionate team at St. Marks Hospital and Quality Hospice for their care and support during JoAnn’s final days. A heartfelt thank you as well to Magleby Mortuary for their support, care, and compassion during this difficult time.
