JoAnn Anderson

Gunnison, Utah

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to all, JoAnn R. Buchanan Anderson, age 76, passed away on November 19, 2018 at her home after a valiant battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. She was born March 12, 1942 to John R. "Jack" and Ruby Christine Henningson Buchanan of Centerfield. She was raised in the Gunnison Valley and always considered herself a "country girl".

JoAnn married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, the late Lee J. Anderson in the Manti Temple on September 23, 1960. They celebrated over 50 years of marriage together. They have 3 daughters: Christine, Michelle, and Annette.

JoAnn loved her family very much and always had a way of making everyone feel special. Her heart and home was always open for all her family and their friends. JoAnn truly loved unconditionally. One of her favorite places to be was home. She took great pride in her home and always had everything looking immaculate. She loved working in her yard growing beautiful flowers and a vegetable garden.

JoAnn liked to stay busy whether it was crocheting, sewing, tole painting, or even just playing on her cell phone. She loved to visit with anyone and everyone and would practically talk your ear off. She loved being surrounded by family and friends. Annual trips to Lake Powell and Tuacahn were things she always looked forward to.

JoAnn was a hard-worker and was very dedicated to every job she ever had. She retired in 2012 after 30 years of working in the school lunch program at the Gunnison Valley Elementary School. JoAnn and her fellow cooks took great pride in all of the homemade rolls, breads, and cinnamon buns. JoAnn loved cooking for all the children and knew them all by name. All of the kids in the valley had a "Grandma Jo".

JoAnn also loved working alongside her hubby Lee. She was his personal secretary for his milk truck and also helped out on the routes. She loved being his co-pilot in the diesel and traveling to new paces with him.

JoAnn was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many positions in the Relief Society and Primary. She was currently the ward historian of the Gunnison 3rd Ward.

JoAnn is survived by her daughters Christine (Blane) Jensen, Gunnison; Michelle Hansen, Ephraim; Annette Winn, Kamas; her 9 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Jill Marie Jensen, Centerfield; sister-in-law, Adella Nelson, Syracuse;. We all love her and will miss her very much. Heaven gained one of the sweetest souls the day she passed away.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; her baby sister, and a grandson.

The family would like to thank Wade Anderson, PAC, Dr. Inouye, and all of their staff and the Gunnison Valley Hospital for all of the great care and kindness they have shown to our mom.
