Joan Stewart
San Diego, California
Joan Day Stewart, 81, passed away April 2, 2013, in American Fork, Utah. She was born into a large and loving family on November 11, 1931, in Aurora, Utah, to Jesse E. and Lora Sorensen Day. After a happy childhood, Joan graduated from North Sevier High School and moved to Salt Lake City, where she graduated from the University of Utah.
While attending the U of U, Joan met Durian H. Stewart. The two were married on December 19, 1953, in the St. George Temple. They made their home in San Diego, a city they dearly loved, where they raised their children and lived for more than 50 years. In their golden years they lived in Henderson, Nevada, for six years and then moved to Provo, Utah in 2011. Joan and Durian recently celebrated their 59th anniversary.
Joan began working right out of college as an escrow officer. Later she became a real estate agent and then a broker with her own office. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in many positions. A highlight of her church service was being an ordinance worker in the San Diego California Temple. She also regularly volunteered in the public schools and in the community. She was known for reading to children and bringing the story to life by using puppets and stuffed animals.
She also enjoyed going to the beach, jumping the waves, traveling, sewing, participating in book clubs, and serving others. Joan was loved by many for her kind and gracious acts of service throughout the years. She was a very loving wife and mother, sister and friend.
