Joan Marie McCausland Gillies, 70, passed away October 22, 2013 at her home in Axtell. She was born October 6, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan to Ross and Ethel Brown McCausland. She married Martin Douglas Gillies January 5, 1962 in Durango, Colorado. The marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple June 5, 2004. He preceded her in death January 27, 2006.
Joan spent many years of her life in Colorado and Arizona. Then in 1981 Joan, Doug, Tracy and Shannon moved to Axtell and established a new home. In Axtell she was surrounded by loving and generous friends who adored her. She was kind, loving, selfless and determined and anyone who knew her was fortunate to have met such an amazing person. Our lives have forever been changed by knowing her. It is beautiful to know that our dearest daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend is now free of her physical limitations.
She is survived by her daughter, Shannon (David) McWilliams, Taylorsville; son-in-law, Michael (Jodi) Patcheck, Mancos, CO; 7 grandchildren; sister, Judy (Denny) Beggrow, and brother, "Mac" (Sharon) McCaulsand, both of Durango, CO.
She is also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Tracy Patcheck.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Axtell LDS Ward Chapel where friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Axtell Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti. Online guestbook at www.maglebymortuary.com
