February 20, 1942 - September 19, 2016 Our beloved friend and artist, Jill Penkhus, died in an automobile accident in Utah. Born in Des Moines, Iowa and raised in Colorado Springs, Jill studied anatomy and art and completed a Master's degree in anatomy and medical illustration at UCLA. Later she completed an MFT at Antioch University and worked as a family therapist. Bilingual, she also worked for a non-profit as a wartime translator in El Salvador. During her 14-year career as a medical illustrator, she worked at the Brain Research Institute and the Department of Anatomy at UCLA. The illustrations appeared in medical journals and various atlases of anatomy including Gray's Anatomy. She bought land and built in Ojai around 40 years ago. A talented artist Jill continued to paint throughout her life using acrylics and pastels on canvas. The last exhibition of her work was from her "Tango Club" series at the Ojai Art Center in May, 2016. She is survived by her husband Jerry Millstein and her stepchildren Josh and Ben Millstein and their families and her goddaughter Kelly Hart. A memorial will be held at Meditation Mount in Ojai on November 5 from 2-5. Please park near Boccali's Restaurant, 3277 E Ojai-Santa Paula Rd. and there will be a shuttle to take you to Meditation Mount. There will be a small memorial next year in Blanding, Utah for her Southwest and Utah friends.
