Jerry Duane Nelson

December 8, 1970 — May 11, 2011

On December 8, 1970 Jerry Duane Nelson was welcomed into this world by his brother Troy, sister Angela, mother Charlotte and his father Charles. In this past week our family has been drawn together in a new way. On May 11, 2011 Duane reunited with his grandparents Dode & Olive Dennis, along with Ed & Margaret Nelson who preceded him in death. Duane was residing in Kamiah, ID where he enjoyed the natural beauty of the outdoors. Duane didn't like long eulogies of praise and would be the first to admit to human weakness.

Duane was a lover of people, children, and especially animals. On May 11th he was out walking his dog, Savage, along the Lolo River when the dog fetched a stick that was thrown into the river; leaving him stranded. Duane, the "Macgyver" of the family, jumped into save Savage and was successful in his mission to do so, but in return got caught in an undercurrent and drowned. His brother said, "There was no question that Duane was doing what he loved, and given the opportunity to do it over; he would do it the same." His mother stated, "Life was simple and exactly what he loved. This last year was the happiest year of his life."

Duane spent a good part of his life giving back, sharing what he knew with those around him, his friends, and loved ones. Reflecting on who Duane was as a person, most people would say, "A person could not simply know Duane; but had to experience him." Indeed, to experience him was to be fully absorbed and embraced in genuine friendship and love. He will be profoundly missed and forever loved, and the many people who experienced our beloved Duane will continue to cherish their joyful memories of him.

He has survived by his mother Charlotte; father Charles (Pennie); brother Troy (Lydia), sister Angela (Jeff), and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Monday May 16, 2011 at 12:00pm in the Richfield City Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
