Jerry McCutcheon

Manti, Utah

Jerry Wayne McCutcheon, 80, passed away on April 2, 2019 at his home in Manti of stage 5 cancer. He was born July 17, 1938 in Peter’s Landing, Perry County, Tennessee to Forrest James and Irman Edith Ray McCutcheon.

Jerry was raised in West Tennessee, attending Lego High School and receiving his GED soon after enlisting in the United States Air Force. Soon after arriving at his first assignment at Williams AFB, AZ (near Chandler), he met his future wife, Charlene Larsen. He joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and waited almost a year so he could marry her in the Mesa Arizona Temple on July 14, 1958.

Jerry served his country proudly for 20 years, worked in the fire department, Air Rescue Division. He received the Airman’s Medal for rescuing a pilot from a burning plane with bombs on it. He also received two Air Force commendation medals, a mid-level award that is granted for prolonged acts of heroism. He served four remote tours, one year at a time: one each in Thule, Greenland, and in Thailand; and two in Vietman.

After retiring and moving to Eager, AZ, he volunteered as a police undercover surveillance officer and an Arizona Ranger. He moved with family back and forth between Arizona and Utah several times. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing and became a guide for bear hunters for several years.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Charlene; children: Sue Ann Hagelstein, Cheryl Lynn Varga, Brenda Kay (Steve) Weener, Debra Gaye DeCinko, Shawn Wayne McCutcheon, James Ross (Julie) McCutcheon, and Diane Marie (Philip Robert) Anthony; 31 grandchildren and soon to be 27 great-grandchildren; sisters: Graple Sue (Tommy) Hinson, Mary Carolyn (Harvey) Hunt and a brother. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mable Lou (Wayne) Wilson.
