Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Jerald Todd Oldroyd, 83, of Glenwood Utah, passed away April 17, 2017 peacefully at his home after a valiant fight with kidney cancer. He was surrounded by loved ones .

Jerald was born November 8, 1933 at the home of his parents Eulida Pearl Jensen and Andrew Van Oldroyd in Glenwood, Utah. He has always lived in the small town of Glenwood that he loved and where he was born and raised. He graduated from Richfield High School in 1952 and then enlisted in the United States Army where he served 2 years as a Corporal in the Big Red One Company. After returning home, he attended the College of Southern Utah, where he graduated in 1960 with a degree in elementary education.

On July 12,1957, Jerald married his loving and eternal companion MayDene Torgersen of Koosharem Utah. They have four children: Kathleen (Richard) Kendall, Levan, Utah; Wayne (Sharon) Oldroyd, Glenwood, Utah; Brent (Susan) Oldroyd, Beaver, Utah; and Jerry (Tara) Oldroyd, Cedar City, Utah.

Out of college, Jerald taught at Richfield Jr. High, then moved to Ashman Elementary where he taught 4th and 5th grade until the last few years where he taught at Pahvant Elementary. Jerald taught school in Richfield for 35 years and enjoyed teaching and helping all his students. To many, he was known as "Mr. O" or "Mr Patriotism". He loved his country and the flag and took every opportunity to show that love and patriotism. He always said, "I was born an American, I love America, I died an American." Because of his love for his country and the American flag, he has influenced the patriotic feelings of his acquaintances, family members and friends. He taught many classes for the Boy Scouts, in church settings, and many other places regarding the proper treatment of his beloved country's flag, and because of his love for the flag many brought their old, worn flags to him to be retired.

Jerald loved his family and found great joy spending time with them and sharing their life experiences. He loved being outdoors and hunting with his sons and grandsons and when not hunting taking pictures of wildlife and nature with his camera and video camera and panning for gold. He enjoyed all family get-togethers and watching his grandchildren play sports and cheering them on at their games. In the summer he worked in his garden and yard and in the winter he helped Mom make Christmas fruit cake and homemade ice cream.

Jerald served as bishop of the Glenwood ward and on the stake High Council, he also taught Sunday School and served at the Bishop's Storehouse. While serving as bishop, he also served as the mayor of Glenwood and also at one time was the town sheriff. He has served on the Glenwood Town Council and on the Sevier School Board. Jerald received the Freedom Foundation Award and had many articles in the paper for his teaching and his patriotism.

This wonderful and loving man will be missed greatly by his family. We will miss his wisdom, his joking around but most of all his singing and humming. We love you Dad, and are grateful for all your love, for all your teachings, for passing on to us and our children love of family, church, country and the flag. Aside from your family, your greatest legacy will be your love of this great country. Thank you for the memories. All our love until we see you again.

Jerald is survived by his wife: MayDene, daughter: Kathleen, sons: Wayne, Brent, Jerry; 19 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack (Carol) Oldroyd, Stan Oldroyd. Preceded in death by parents; brother: Artel Oldroyd, sisters: Vana Nelson and Fay Larsen.

Glenwood Ward Chapel. Friends may call Friday at the Magleby Mortuary from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday at the ward chapel in Glenwood from 10-11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery with military honors by the V.F.W. Sevier Post #5050.
