Jayrene Barney Nielsen, born on October 6, 1947, daughter of Willard Jay Jr. and Tina Patricia Larsen Barney, returned with honor to her Heavenly Father on October 21, 2018 at the age of 71, in Richfield. After a long battle with cancer she is now at peace. In her family, community, career, and church, she was known as mother, grandmother, and friend to all. She lived to serve others, to share the deep love she had for this life, her faith in the gospel, and her testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Jayrene graduated from Richfield High School in 1965 and afterwards was awarded an academic scholarship to attend Snow College in Ephraim, UT. She graduated from Snow College in 1967 with an Associate’s Degree.
After re-meeting her love, Bryce Emil Nielsen, on her way to way a movie with her sister, they began dating, and were married and sealed in the Manti Temple in Manti, UT on May 25, 1968. Their eternal life started together in Richfield and throughout the years had 4 very adventurous and loving boys.
Next to her family, her love, faith and membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was the most the important aspect of her life. Her callings in the Church consisted of stake Relief Society presidency, Primary chorister, Primary president, and a pianist whenever an occasion called for it.
During her life she worked at Rock Candy Mountain, the Fish Lake Lodge, a dorm mother at Snow College, at D Land Title, a children’s librarian, and many other positions. Her main career was working for Sevier County for 27 years as the Deputy Recorder from 1988-98 and she was elected as the County Recorder from 1998, until she retired on January 1, 2016.
Jayrene is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Bryce; her children: Gary Bryce (Camla), Jeffery Jay, Jerry Emil (Angela), Devin Scott Nielsen; and her 9 grandchildren: Jordan Bryce, Tayler Michelle, Christian DeVere, Colby David, MaKayla Marie, Madelynn Ruth, Brayton Michael, Gabrielle Rose, and Benzleigh Alysse Nielsen; her sister Patricia Anne (John) Jones; brothers: Lenard J. (Pauline) Barney and David Scott (ShaReece) Barney. She is greatly loved and will be forever remembered.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 12:00 Noon in the Richfield 4th Ward Chapel. Friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the Magleby Mortuary and Saturday from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. at the ward chapel. Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery.
