Jay Jackson

Jay Gubler Jackson, left this mortal earth on Thursday, September 25, 2014 in South Jordan. He was born February 15, 1922 to Harry Earl and Partha Ann Gubler Jackson in LaVerkin, Utah. He grew up in Southern Utah, with Zion National Park as his playground. He graduated from Hurricane High School and was the first person in his town to enlist in the US Navy. He honorably served during World War II flying blimps. He was introduced to Thelma June Frost by his sister, LaZaun, and they were married on July 20, 1944 in the Logan, Utah Temple. She preceded him in death July 1, 2009.
Jay was a firefighter for Salt Lake City for 30 years, retiring in 1977. He simultaneously worked as a home inspector, and then later as a real estate appraiser.
Jay and Thelma lived in Rose Park, Capitol Hill, Salt Lake City, West Valley City and Monroe, Utah.
Jay learned carpentry at a young age and became very proficient with his hands, building several houses for his family, and having several side businesses in the construction industry. He stayed physically active throughout his life, enjoying hunting, fishing, playing racquetball, handball, golfing, bike riding, even going for walks around the neighborhood in his later years. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and he was loved by everyone who knew him.
Jay served as a councilman for West Valley City on the first city council after the city was formed, from 1982 to 1986. He was a man of great integrity, which limited his political career to just one term. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in which he faithfully served in many callings. Jay and Thelma served a mission at the Los Angeles Temple Visitors Center in the California Los Angeles Mission from 1989 to 1990. His constant goal in life was to serve others, and he was always looking for ways to help his fellow man. He had an unwavering testimony of Jesus Christ, right to the very end. He was a true disciple of Christ.
Jay is survived by his daughters: Gayle Peacock, Judy (Scott) Sceili, and Renee Adams, as well as 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; brothers: Joe Jackson and Hal Russell.
He is also preceded in death by his son, JayLynn; parents; sisters: LaZaun and Mary; brother, Earl.
Funeral services will be held Thursday October 2, 2014, 11:00 a.m. in Country Crossing 1st Ward, 11173 So Copper Point Way, where friends may call Wednesday from 7:00-8:00 pm and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be Friday at 12:00 Noon in the Monroe City Cemetery with military rites by the Monroe American Legion, Post #37 and the Utah Honor Guard.
