Jay Barnson
Monroe, Utah
A special light has returned home and left our world a little dimmer.
Lorin Jay Barnson, 60, of Monroe, passed away April 5, 2012 in Richfield. He was born May 8, 1951, in Richfield, to Lorin J and LaVell Dickinson Barnson. He married Cynda Lou Parsons, July 31, 1970; later divorced. He married Alberta Sue Chappell Olcott, April 27, 1990. She preceded him in death May 6, 2000. He married Joyce Barney Robinson on December 28, 2000.
Jay graduated from South Sevier High School and received a degree in Elementary Education from CSU in Cedar City. He was a gifted teacher and he loved his job. He had a great influence over the children in his class. His students will fondly remember mounting deer antlers, making reindeer, the goose dinner where they had to use their best manners, and "The Question of the Day" on the chalkboard. Jay was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1973 at age 22. He taught school for 10 years at Pahvant Elementary School in Richfield, and 13 years at Monroe Elementary before his condition forced an early retirement.
Jay loved the outdoors and had many happy times camping, hunting, and fishing with friends and family. When the fishing got slow he might be heard singing about his favorite lure, "Maisie, Maisie, When I put on my Maisie, the fish quit being lazy, and go crazy, over my Maisie." Then he’d reel one up.
Jay’s mother owned the "Topsfield Lodge" and Jay loved cooking steaks there, working along side his mother and other family members. Jay loved his children and grandchildren and was so proud of their accomplishments.
Jay was refined by his struggle with MS. He was kind, compassionate, and always full of gratitude. Although nearly completely disabled at the end, his question to visitors would be, "What can I do for you?"
Jay is survived by his wife, Joyce, Monroe; children: McCall (Gail) Dunn, Cade (Emily) Barnson, Haley Barnson (Matt Bassett), Derrick Barnson, Jamie Robinson, Christopher (Kellie) Robinson, Patrick Robinson, Matthew Robinson; 11 grandchildren; mother, LaVell Dickinson Barnson (Lee R) Jensen; sisters, Rainie (Ron) Mills, Carolyn Hasoppe.
Jay was preceded in death by father; step-son, Clifton; brother-in-law, Manny Hasoppe.
