Janice Barney Gurney, our loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family on March 11, 2013. Jan was born on January 1, 1938 in Richfield, Utah to Harold J. and LaJune Barney.
She graduated from South Sevier High School in 1956, and married Kenneth R. Gurney in the Manti Temple on September 20, 1957. She owned and operated Jan's Kitchen in Salina for 19 years and was a vice president of Gurney Trucking.
Jan was an active member of the LDS Church, where she served in many callings. She loved music and served as ward organist for many years. She accompanied and sang at many weddings and funerals. She also played for the elderly at the care center and the Beehive Home. Jan spent many treasured hours with her family. She loved being with her grandchildren and was a loyal supporter of them in all of their activities.
Jan is survived by her husband, Kenneth, Lost Creek; children, Alan (Vicki) Gurney, Lost Creek; Ann (Jim) Shaw, Aurora; Scott (Jodi) Gurney, Aurora; Brett (Cindy) Gurney, Saratoga Springs; 14 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters, Gwen (Sid) Curtis, Billie Ann (Kent) Chavez; sister-in-law, Silvia Barney. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Phil H. Barney; grandson, Seth Alan Gurney.
Jan was very patient in her suffering and her family appreciates the time they spent with her and loves her very much. A special thanks to At Home Health and Hospice and the Dialysis Center in Richfield.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, March 14, 2013 in the Aurora LDS Second Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the ward chapel in Aurora for viewing on Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 or prior to the funeral on Thursday morning from 10:00 to 11:30. Burial will be in the Aurora City Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
