Jim Sanders
Richfield, Utah
Our kind, caring and loving brother, James Edward Sanders, 77, passed away January 24, 2013 following a four-year battle with kidney failure.
Jim, being born of goodly parents, Reo and Jessie Fowles Sanders, entered this life on June 13, 1935 in the small community of Centerfield.
Jim lived most of his life in Richfield. There he attended elementary, Richfield Jr. High and Richfield High. After his graduation, Jim attended Brigham Young University.
Jim was drafted into the Army and served for two years in Korea after the Korean War. We all loved the beautiful China dolls, hand-painted plates, beaded purses, ornate fans and chop sticks inlaid with mother-of-pearl that he sent home.
After the Army, Jim returned to Richfield and started working in Dad’s auto and radiator shop where he became an expert at radiator repair for those living in the southern Utah area. Building all those flying model airplanes with his brother was a good thing in sparking an interest in auto mechanics.
Jim loved fishing which led to the building of two boats. The first one was a "Plain Jane" model, but the second had all the bells and whistles that he wanted. The whole family and many friends enjoyed going fishing with Jim, including his nieces and nephews—he let them drive the boat! He caught his share of mackinaw at Fish Lake at his favorite spot, under the "saddle."
Jim loved snowmobiling in the winter. He bought a new Arctic Cat, and went snowmobiling with his friends at the sand ledges and Fish Lake area. On one outing Jim and several of his friends had a frightful experience when one of the machines broke down and they couldn’t get the others up the steep terrain because of the deep snow. They spent a cold night huddled together under a large pine tree. The next afternoon they were spotted by a helicopter and were rescued. After, Jim sold his snowmobile.
Jim had a love for helping those individuals who came into the shop needing a helping hand. Many a time he sent people on their way with just a handshake and a smile.
We want to thank the many friends and neighbors who dropped by to visit—many bringing treats and wonderful meals. We know Jim appreciated your love and thoughtfulness. Thanks also goes to those at the Richfield Dialysis Center
and IHC Home Health and Hospice for their kindness, skill and friendship. We will miss our kind-hearted brother dearly. We are so grateful for his caring, thoughtful ways, for the good life he lived and for the fine example he set for us. We love him.
Jim is survived by his sisters: Judith Carol (Anthony) Ahlrichs and Susan Kay (Larry) Paxton; sister-in-law, Gloria Sanders; and by 9 nieces and 12 nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Duane F Sanders; and sister, Bonnie Jean (Rollo) Julander.
