James Arther Woolever

James Arther Woolever, passed away November 10, 2015 at his home in Elsinore. He was born December 18, 1933 in the Spring Creek community, Washita County, Oklahoma to Jack and Faye Pritchard Woolever. He was raised in the Mountain View, Oklahoma area and attended school there. In his childhood his parents passed away: he and his siblings were then cared for by his maternal grandparents, E. P. and Eva Pritchard.

James entered the U.S. Navy in the early 1950’s during the Korean conflict. He served as a Navy Corpsman aboard the U.S.S. Helena. The Helena, on her third tour of duty in the Far East bombarded the enemy coast line in support of UN ground troops.

After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to California and worked as a police officer, he was then employed at US Steel in Torrance, CA. His employment in Elsinore was for Marc’s Place as a mechanic. He loved working on motors and rebuilding old cars. He collected vintage vehicles.

James married Judith Wood in 1953 and to this union was born two children: son James A. Woolever, Jr. and daughter, Marian Jeanette Woolever.He married Edith E. Newman and they had a daughter, Deana M Woolever. They were divorced and later remarried. She preceded him in death in 2004.

He married Barbara Anderson Gebhart in 1959 and they had four children: daughters Jamie Michele Woolever Sanchez, Faye Estelle Woolever, and sons, Jack Haley Woolever II and Jeffrey Woolever.

He is survived by his children; and his sister, Geraldine Peck. of Bartlesville, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Faye Estelle Woolever; siblings: Betty Jones and Harold Woolever.

Cremation services have been held. A memorial service will be announced for a later date. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery, Mountain View, Oklahoma. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
