James Ogden

Ephraim, UT

Surrounded by family, James Ervin Ogden (Jim) passed away September 30, 2015 in Provo, Utah. He was 74.

Born in Richfield, Utah, April 6, 1941, to Ervin and Runa Ogden, Jim would speak fondly of the years spent with his family on the Sandy Ranch in Garfield County. After graduating from Reseda High School in Los Angeles, California, he studied accounting at BYU where he met Carol. Later he served an LDS mission to Uruguay and Argentina. Jim married Carol Neal of Malad, Idaho in the Logan Temple on October 11, 1963. Returning to Los Angeles to finish Jim’s CPA degree at the University of North Ridge, they would open what became a successful chain of pizzeria and fried chicken restaurants. As their family grew, the couple chose to relocate to Sevier and Sanpete, Utah where they raised seven children. Jim’s legacy is not only in the number of college degrees and LDS missions by his descendants, but in the strength of the bonds his growing diverse family has for each other. In retirement, Jim and Carol served an LDS Spanish speaking mission in Sanpete, County.

Jim is survived by his spouse Carol; siblings, Craig and Sarah (Ron); his children, David (Terri) Ogden, Page (Tom) Kimball, Ruth (John) Halstead, Craig (Jana) Ogden, Dawn (Clarence) Byington, Mari (Roy) Ogden, and Sara (Jonathan) Santos-Ogden. Jim has 27 grandchildren.
Jim will be remembered for his love for reading, camping, fishing, hunting, his inventiveness, being generous to a fault, and the occasional game of gin rummy.
