Jacob Honsinger
Plumas Lake, California
Jacob Douglas Honsinger, 14, passed away October 11, 2017 peacefully in the arms of his parents after fighting a courageous battle with an aggressive brain tumor. Jacob was born September 22, 2003 in Layton to Caleb & Kami Barben Honsinger, and lived in 5 states while growing up a military brat - but he was anything but a brat. Jacob never had to be taught to be kind. In fact he started teaching others at a very young age. The inherent traits of selflessness, humility, a keen sense of humor, and patience were second nature to him.
Jacob loved his family dearly and rarely thought of himself. His first comments to his siblings when they visited him in the hospital were a reminder to be sure they were good kids for their mom and were getting along at home. Jacob was loved by all his siblings for many reasons, not the least of these being that he could often be seen finishing their chores when they were "too tired".
Jacob became a quick favorite at the hospital, thanking the nurses each time they finished drawing his blood and never once complaining of his circumstances. He had an innate way of reminding you that you could always be a little more kind, a little more humble, and a little more patient.
He enjoyed playing video games with whoever was willing to challenge him but especially his dad and brother. But for every video game he played, he also read books. Jacob had a memory like no other and was mature beyond his years. He could put your academic degrees to shame with his quick facts, comments and questions that would make you think while also cracking you up. He found humor in the midst of his illness and even coined some of his own jokes including "What does Batman say just before he throws up? Quick, to the Batroom!"More important than any of this though, Jacob was one of the best examples of Christ-like love. He willingly submitted to all things the Lord saw fit for him, leaving an excellent example for his friends and family.
As Jacob moves on to the eternities, he leaves behind his parents; his three younger siblings: Rachel, Aaron, and Allison; grandparents: Keith and McVoy Barben, Douglas and Justine Honsinger. Until we meet again Jacob, may the force be with you - always.
The Honsingers would like to thank all the family, friends, and health care providers that worked tirelessly to care for Jacob. You brightened his darkest days and for that we are grateful.
