Ione Hunt
Annabella, Utah
On the afternoon of October 28, 2021, Ione Roberts Hunt slipped into heaven with bright eyes and a smile on her face while surrounded by her children. Ione was born to Lloyd and Lovell Roberts on March 18, 1935 in Annabella, UT. She was the 6th of 7 children. She studied the piano at an early age, a love and talent she would enjoy her entire life. She graduated from South Sevier High School in 1953.
On September 8, 1953, she married Edwin Kay Peterson of Glenwood, in the Manti Utah Temple where they were sealed, and together they settled in her hometown of Annabella. They had three children: Shelley, Kinley Kay and Landon Todd. She was a funny kind of mom. She loved her kids so much that if they got hurt, she'd get mad at them. They each have stories of sneaking injuries to avoid getting spanked. She loved her kids fiercely, and adored her nieces and nephews.
Kay and Ione divorced, and Ione turned her attention to her kids and grandkids. She had 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, but also had several other unofficial "grandchildren," as she loved kids and they loved her. She traveled to many recitals, games, dance competitions, plays and other special events to support her grandkids.
In 1996 she met and married Ellis Day Hunt of St. George, UT. Together, they lived in Annabella until his death in 2003. She loved his children: Barry (Hopi) Hunt (deceased), Elleen Watts, Doug (Kim) Hunt, Collette Varley, and grandchildren as well, and many spent time in Annabella with her, even after his death.
Ione will be remembered by most as a wonderful pianist. At 14 she began playing the piano and the organ for the Annabella Ward, funerals and talent shows and continued serving as ward organist for 50 more years. She also taught piano lessons for 10 years and had as many as 38 students at a time.
Her gift of music was rare and special. Even after suffering a stroke earlier this year, she was able to sit and play her favorite sheet music. She had a great fashion sense and used that talent while working at Hazel's, a women's clothing store. She loved bowling and participated in bowling leagues for years. People in town always wanted to be on her Christmas list because she made the best divinity candy. Her smile was always bright and contagious, as was her giggle.
In her later years, you could usually find her in her Annabella home, where she enjoyed laughing and visiting with guests and watching The Utah Jazz with her lifelong friend, Jerri, and her nephew, Jeff. She loved going to Denny's to get pancake puppies and cheesecake. Often times, she would decide cheesecake would be her meal, because, why not?!
Ione is survived by her children: Shelley (Terry) Monson ,Bloomington, UT; Kinley (Bridget) Peterson, Annabella, UT; and Landon Peterson, Walnut Creek, CA; grandchildren: Matt (Jeny) Monson, Adam (Eryka) Monson, Rachel (J.J.) Auer, Nicole Peterson, McCall (Christian) Morrison, Ryan Peterson, Sean (Allie) Peterson and Kadon Peterson; as well as her great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Dale (Ruby) Roberts and Cleve (Deanna) Roberts.
Ione was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ellis Hunt; sisters, Norma Lou (Lyle) Nebeker and Edna Mae (Lavon) Tanner; brothers: Doraine (Gloria) Roberts and Art (Shirleen) Roberts; sister-in-law, Ruby.
