Ilona Leiola You Tai Tsark Wiebke Parker passed away on September 14,2012 in Oologah, Oklahoma where she was staying at her granddaughter’s house, she was 86 years old.
Ilona was born in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii on August 31, 1926. She lived mainly in Molokai, Hawaii during her early years and was privileged to go to Kamehameha School for her education. There she watched the bombing of Pearl Harbor from the roof of the school, she thought it was just maneuvers.
After high school Ilona went to Texas Women’s College in Denton TX. After World War II ended, she married Robert Farnsworth Parker whom she had met in Hawaii where he was a pilot stationed at Hickam Air Force Base.
Ilona later became a stockbroker in Riverton WY and then in Denver CO. She also formed a Hawaiian dance troupe, entertaining in country clubs and resorts around Denver.
After retirement Robert and Ilona were longtime residents of Brush CO where they developed a farm and wildlife preserve. They were awarded the Wildlife Landowner and Landowner of the Year Awards and the Good Steward Award from the National Arbor Society.
Ilona had five children: Justine “Kitsie” Hacken, Sara “Chickie” Allen, Bernette Guest-Weaver, Robert Henry Parker, and LaRise Morley. She had 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
The children are planning a Hawaiian celebration on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the Magleby Magleby in Richfield. Viewing is from 11:30 to 12:30. Burial will follow in the Joseph Cemetery. All cousins and haoles are welcome.
