Hurley Joy McClellan
Monroe, Utah
Hurley Joy Pope McClellan, 83, died October 2, 2013 in Richfield. She was born on May 8, 1930 in Monroe, to LaVon and Flora Bell Handley Pope, the fourth of seven children. She grew up in Monroe and graduated from South Sevier High School. She married Nial K. McClellan and was later divorced.
Hurley’s boys and family were her priority. She worked tireless hours as a single mother to make sure that her family had their needs met and sacrificed her time to ensure her boys happiness. Adored by her grandchildren, she always had a gentle smile and hug to offer and fun stories to share. She had a quick wit and a sassy attitude that will be missed by all.
Hurley was so proud of her three brothers and was so excited anytime she was able to spend time with them or talk with them on the phone. She also looked forward to spending time with her friends over lunch and especially the Thursday card game group. She also loved to watch the Utah Jazz.
Hurley had a smile and kind gentle twinkle that could light up a room. She served the people of Richfield as a waitress at the Rainbow Café, BJ’s, Best Western, and Days Inn.
Hurley was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Mark Robert Greenwood, the staff of Stonehenge of Richfield, At-Home Health Care and Hospice, and all of the people who gave care to our mom the last three years.
She is survived by her children: David (Nancy) McClellan, West Jordan; Brent (Janice) McClellan, Gunnison; 9 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; brothers: Burns Pope, St. George; Lynn (Karen) Pope, Phoenix; Ried (Gloria) Pope, St. George; brother-in-law, Cecil Mason .
