Howard Ray Petersen, 73, passed away May 24, 2013 in Provo. He was born December 2, 1939 in Ferron to Alma S. and Vivian Bertha Pettey Petersen. He married Catherine May Biehn February 6, 1965 in the Los Angeles Temple.

Howard will be remembered as the bookmobile librarian for many years for the Utah State Library. He also taught school, was an insurance adjuster and an operator in a natural gas plant.

An active member of the LDS Church, Howard served as Elder’s Quorum President, also as president of the Seventies and High Priest group leader. He has also served in high councils and bishoprics. He served missions to Sweden, Michigan and Richfield. He was involved and served in leadership rolls in the Richfield Senior’s Association and the Sevier County Players and Dancers. His hobbies and interests include: reading, dancing, woodwork, carving, writing papers on Church history and doctrine, teaching, and public speaking. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and quick wit.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine, Richfield; children: Beth Dahl, Milton, WA; Kelli (Terrell) Nilson, Payson; Scott (Bobbi) Petersen, Richfield; Traci (Sid) Westerman, Boise, ID; David (Margaret) Petersen, Francis; Carrie (Adam) Cline, Olympia, WA; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; siblings: Doris Kalani, CA;  Allan (Sylvia) Coker, Phoenix, AZ; Peggy (Craig) Kasper, Buena Park, CA; Richard Coker, Salt Lake City.

Preceded in death by parents; son, Daniel Ray Petersen; siblings: Sherrell Petersen, Elaine Petersen, Blaine Petersen.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 31, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the Richfield 2nd LDS Ward Chapel, 700 West 200 South.  Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary in Richfield on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 and at the ward chapel on Friday from 9:00 to 9:45.  Burial will be in the Ferron Cemetery Friday afternoon at 2:30.
