Horace Michael Andrews, 102, passed away May 3, 2013 in Richfield. He was born March 31, 1911 in Logan, to John Michael and Nora Maude Nielson Andrews. He married Vanetta Larsen, May 31, 1939 in the Manti LDS Temple, she preceded him in death March 17, 2010.
Horace attended elementary school in Tooele, junior high and high school in Beaver and at West High School in Salt Lake City. He earned his bachelor’s in forestry and range management at Utah State University. While in school he played basketball and football.
He worked for the Forest Service for four years and the Soil Conservation Service for 38 years. He, along with his family, lived and worked in Salmon, ID; Elko, NV; Las Cruces and Alamogordo, N.M. and in Monticello, Morgan, Cedar City and Richfield, Utah.
Horace was a lifetime member of the Lion’s Club and served as president in Monticello, Cedar City and Richfield. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served in numerous positions. He also belonged to the governor’s Century Club of Utah.
He loved fly-fishing, hunting and gardening. He tied flies for fishing as a hobby and shared many with family and friends.
He is survived by his children: Marian (Eric) Gardner of Salt Lake City, Dixie (Scott) Hassett of Murray, Don (Lorelei) Andrews of Monticello and Tammy (Kirt) Nilsson of Monroe; 27 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren and son-in-law, Ray Pini of Arizona.
In addition of his sweet wife, Vanetta, preceding him in death is his daughter, Kathy Pini; granddaughter, Tony Ray Pini; grandson-in-law, Marshall Higging; parents; brothers and sisters-in-law, Norman and Lucille Andrews and Lloyd and Monte Andrews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the Magleby Mortuary, 50 South 100 West in Richfield. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery. Funeral Directors, Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
