Henry Roy Hansen Jr., of Centerfield/Gunnison, Utah, and formerly from Sunset, Utah, died March 4, 2017 suddenly at the Gunnison Valley Hospital. He was born June 27, 1939 to Henry Roy, Sr. and Vennis M. Mickelsen Hansen in Salt Lake. He grew up in the Ogden area and graduated from the old Weber High School in 1958. At age six he contacted Bulbar polio and as a result he had poor health his whole life.

Roy was involved in music and enjoyed playing the saxophone. In his later years he played in the "All That Jazz" band in Gunnison, Utah. He loved Dutch oven cooking, leatherwork and deer hunting with his family. He was a volunteer fireman in Sunset and even did some work as a lumberjack. He volunteered during the 2002 Winter Olympics. He loved doing blacksmith work and volunteered as a blacksmith as well at "This Is the Place Heritage Park" in Salt Lake. He was a missionary at Cove Fort and was a blacksmith there as well. He was a member of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers and the Mormon Battalion.

Roy served in many positions in the LDS Church including in the Scouting program, MIA, Sunday School, and High Priest Group leadership. He also served as a 70's President in his stake, a counselor in the bishopric and then as a bishop of the Sunset 2nd Ward. The calling he enjoyed most was that of a teacher, both to his family and ward members. He served a full time mission in Northern California, despite his many health issues. He also served as a tour guide on Temple Square in Salt Lake City.

On April 20, 1962 he married Nola Berniece Kimber in the Logan, Utah Temple. Together they raised seven children: Robert (Aracelly) Hansen, Tooele, Randy (Amber) Hansen, North Ogden; Rick (Heidi) Hansen, Springville; Melinda (Tyler) Hunter, Willard; Tina (Chad) Griffin, Clearfield; Ryan (Penny) Hansen, Roy; and Russ (Debbi) Hansen, Tooele.

After 34 years of marriage, he lost Berniece after her courageous battle with cancer. He then married Kathie King on November 14, 1996 in the Manti, Utah Temple. They moved to Gunnison and then recently moved to Centerfield, Utah.

He is survived by his second wife Kathie Hansen, and her children: Adam (Amber) King, St. George; and Kristen King, West Valley City. He is also survived by his 7 children, 41 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren as well as his brother Bob (Loretta) Hunt, Syracuse; sister, Kay (J) Lundell, Riverton; and 5 step-siblings.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Delores Byers; and his first wife, Berniece.

Funeral services will be held Thursday March 9, 2017 at 12:00 Noon in the Centerfield 2nd Ward Chapel, 210 S. Main, where friends may call Thursday from 10:00 am to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 12:00 Noon in the Clearfield Cemetery, 1050 State St. In Clearfield, where family and friends are invited to gather a half hour prior to services.
