Helen Marlene Winget

March 16, 1935 — January 25, 2012

Helen Marlene Horton Winget, 76, passed away Wednesday January 25, 2012 in the company of her adoring daughter. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends with whom she generously shared her love. Helen was born to March 16, 1935 in Circleville to George Garald and Ina Christensen Horton and was named after Helen of Troy by her father since she was such a beautiful baby. She attended Piute High School and was student body Vice President, Future Farmers of America Queen and voted best personality when she graduated in 1953. She attended Brigham Young University for 3 years and studied Education.

Helen met Burke L. Winget of Monroe during a summer job in Bryce Canyon where she was a housekeeper and he was a gas station attendant. They married in 1956 in Circleville, and moved to San Francisco while Burke did his medical residency at the Presidio.

She was delighted when they had a son, Craig in 1959. With the United States Air Force the family moved to Massachusetts, then to Tachikawa, Japan and finally to Fairfield, CA. They settled in Lafayette, CA and added a daughter, Kristine Michelle, to their family in 1969. Helen took pride in her home and community and was a devoted church member of the LDS church. She loved entertaining and opening her home to others and considered many to be extended family.

She most adored her three grandsons: Kyle, Alex and Austin Kinnear and loved being able to travel to Hawaii with them, attend their events and see their accomplishments. Her daughter was her pride and joy and her best friend and her son-in-law, Shawn, her rock. She had the pleasure of living next door to Krissy and Shawn’s family for the past year, which she treasured.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Krissy and Shawn Kinnear and three grandchildren Kyle, Alex and Austin Kinnear. She was preceded in death by her son, Craig S. Winget and husband Burke L. Winget.

Funeral services will be held Monday January 30, 2012 at the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel at 2369 Overlook Drive in Walnut Creek. Viewing will be held from 10:00 – 11:00am with services at 11:00am. Additional funeral services will be held Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the Circleville Ward Chapel.
