Helen Verville
Marysvale, Utah
Helen Elizabeth Walls Verville, 95, passed away February 27, 2020 in Richfield. She was born to William L. and Lulu Mae Hodges Walls in Stowe Township, Pennsylvania, on June 30, 1925. She graduated from Stowe High School in June 1943 and the Western Union School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in December 1943 as an Automatic Operator. She worked for Western Union and as a secretary most of her life in Washington, D.C. and Pittsburgh, PA, as well as Torrance, California and Richfield, Utah. She married Louis J. Verville, February 24, 1949, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and later divorced.
Helen and Lou moved to Marysvale in 1980 because Lou liked hunting and fishing in the area, and they built the home she has resided in since then. Helen served as the secretary at Valley Community Church in Richfield and on the Commodity Distribution for Sevier County. She was the director of the Piute County food bank from 1987 to 2000. She was well-known for her baking ability, especially her delicious rolls and cakes, which she loved to bring to church dinners.
While she had no children of her own, Helen was like a second mother to nephews Scott and John "Jack" Crawford while living in Torrance,California. She provided them with a solid, well balanced childhood from kindergarten through high school. She always gave them total support during their formative years, even serving as their Boy Scout leader.
She loved to read—especially mysteries, do jigsaw puzzles, and keep current with political news. She especially enjoyed the holidays with her love of the traditions and her faith in God. She was a charter member of Marysvale Baptist Church when it formed in 1996. Helen died trusting in Jesus Christ for salvation, knowing that He paid the full price of her redemption from sin on the cross.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Harry (Judy) and William (Claire) Walls; sisters: Mildred (Edward) Lee and Cora Mae Walls, who died in childhood; nephews: John Crawford and Christopher DeLany; and her former husband Louis. Surviving relatives include her sister-in-law, Diane (Bill) Becker, Genoa, NV; and her nephew Scott (Mary) Crawford, Mission Viejo, CA.
