Harold J. Sorensen

Richfield, Utah

Harold J. Sorensen, 97, of Richfield was finally granted his wish December 11, 2012 when he was permitted to leave his tired and worn out earthly body to ascend to a higher level where he could be gathered into the loving arms of his parents, his wives, Blanche and Leona, and son, Michael.

He was born January 8, 1915 in Glenwood to James Elmer and Mattie Bell Sorensen. He married Blanche L. Rickenbach, February 28, 1935 in the Manti LDS Temple and spent 35 wonderful years with her. They built their home in Glenwood. They are the parents of three children: Michael, Louise and Charlotte. The last two years of their lives together he became Blanche’s caregiver as she fought a losing battle with cancer. She passed away March 20, 1972.

He married Leona Bergsjo Rickenbach, January 28, 1973. He left his home in Glenwood and moved to Richfield. She passed away June 13, 2003 after many years of ill health.

Harold was dedicated to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served in many callings throughout his life, including bishop of the Glenwood ward, as well as in bishoprics in Glenwood and the Richfield 4 th Ward. He also loved his family very much, always ready to serve them and help in any way that he could. He was diligent in serving both throughout his life.

He loved the mountains. He worked for the forest service for many years driving a patrol, keeping the roads up on all of the mountains in the area. He especially loved his property on Monroe Mountain where he built a small cabin. Many happy hours were spent there as he watched over his cattle and enjoyed the fresh mountain air.

He is survived by his daughters, Louise (Tarval) Torgersen, Greenwich; Charlotte (Frank) Chaffin, West Jordan; daughter-in-law, Kathy Sorensen, Annabella; brother, LeGrand Sorensen, Salt Lake valley; 18 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael; one sister and four brothers.

We will miss him and his positive attitude, but his example will be forever implanted in our hearts.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Magleby Mortuary Chapel, where friends may call Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery. Funeral Directors, Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the LDS Missionary fund through your local ward bishop.
