Gwen May Anderson Jacobson McGarry passed away on June 3, 2017. She was born on July 17, 1928 at home to Peter Grant and Lafonda King Anderson. She was raised in Wales Utah in a loving and productive home where she learned and developed many skills that stood her in good stead for the rest of her life.

Mom graduated from Moroni High School and then attended BYU. She married Rawlin V Jacobson on Jan 9, 1949 and they are the parents of 5 children. Rawlin died on Nov. 18, 1978. Gwen married Wendell H. McGarry on March 2, 1980 and was blessed to add 4 more children to her family.

Mom had a beautiful, clear soprano voice and used that talent to bless the lives of all around her by singing any time that she had the opportunity. She sang solos in the Messiah, at funerals, and in church as well as singing in duets and trios and any choir she could find.

Mom loved to serve. She served on the Ephraim City Council for 12 years, as the Red Cross Blood Chairman for 18 years, and she served as an EMT with the Ephraim City Ambulance Service for 17 years. Mom had a special love for Snow College where she and her oldest daughter graduated the same day. She served on the Board of Trustees for Snow College for 12 years where she made many lasting friendships and accomplished a lot of good for Snow College. Mom had many other talents too numerous to mention that she used to serve those around her and help to make their lives better. Mom had a deep abiding testimony of Jesus Christ and loved serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in all the auxiliaries both in the ward and in the stake. She served as Stake Relief Society President in her early seventies and more recently as a primary teacher and gospel doctrine teacher and as a teacher in the Young Woman’s in her mid eighties. Mom didn’t believe in ever turning down a calling from the Lord.

Mom is survived by her children Jann (Boyd) Anderson, Don (Reonia) Jacobson, Joni (Mace) Gleave, Jean (Bret) Hillyard, Wendy (Michael) Moore, Kristeen (Kurt) Lindorff, Brad (Laree) McGarry, Nancee (Jeff) Ott. 42 grandchildren, 84 great Grandchildren. LaGrande (Mildred) Anderson (brother), Peter (Verdeen) Jacobson (brother and sister in law), Dorothy McGarry (sister in law). She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Rawlin V, Jacobson, & Wendell H. McGarry, and her son Reed Jacobson, a brother Keith Anderson, two grandsons, two great grandbabies and many beloved in-laws.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Ephraim 3rd Ward Chapel, 400 East Center. Friend may call on Thursday, June 8, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the church and also prior to services from 11:00-12:30. Interment will be in the Fountain Green Cemetery.
