Gloria Mikesell Johnson, 78, of Sterling, passed away June 19, 2012 in Gunnison. She was born May 7, 1934 in Richfield to Wilson LaVor and Rhoda Crosland Mikesell. She married Walter C. Johnson October 21, 1958 in Nevada. He preceded her in death January 1, 1977.
Gloria was a member of the LDS Church. She loved her home, garden and doing yard work. Her yearly yard sales on main in Sterling was a great way to meet people. Her children remember her listening to Lawrence Welk and watching game shows on tv, along with her favorite series, Bonanza. She loved working in her store "GJ's" on Main street in Manti.
A serious bowler, Gloria was entered into the State Bowling Hall of Fame. Collecting salt and pepper shakers and stuffed Seasonal Teddy Bears was a hobby. She’ll be well remembered for her quilts, crocheted pillow cases and afghans.
She is survived by children: Jolene (Phillip) Parker, Salina; Jean (Scott) Beckstead, Salina; VaNae (Paul) Bown, Sterling; Mitzi (Steve) Nelson, Ephraim; 26 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren; brothers and sister: Dean Mikesell, Richfield; Lois (Dale) Ericson, Tooele; and LaMar Mikesell, Richfield.
Also preceded in death by parents; sons, Danny Lane Owens and Arden Johnson; granddaughters Amanda, CheyAnne and Samantha, a sister Colleen and a brother Bob.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sterling Ward Chapel. Friends may call prior to services from 9:00-10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Sterling Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
