Glendon Hyrum Jones, 85, died Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Berger Hospital in Circleville, OH. He was born August 26, 1929 in Cedar City, UT to Thornton Armstrong and Selma Felt Jones.
A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Glendon served two years in the Great Lakes Mission. Glendon served in the U.S. Army, with the occupational forces in Germany during WWII . He received his Bachelor’s degree from the College of Southern Utah, and his Masters from UNLV. He was an educator, principal and superintendent, serving multiple schools and districts in Nevada and Idaho, including Nevada Girls Training Center, and Silver Peak. Eureka and McDermitt, NV schools. He retired after 18 years as an elementary principal in Malta, ID, where he also coached junior high football, basketball, track and volleyball teams. He was active in many types of community affairs, including board of elections, announcing the high school football games, American Legion, Rotary Club, and was a volunteer fireman. He was an avid outdoorsman and taught hunter education for many years.
Glendon is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lois Jones; children: David (Karla) Jones, Bishop, CA; Lisa (Brett) Call, Amanda, OH; Melodie (Dennis) Beck, Columbine Valley, CO; Glenna Dee (Mickey) Rasmussen, Kuna, ID; step-son, Thomas (Michelle) Braun, Cedar City; UT; 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald (Juaneta) Jones; sisters, Arvilla (Dell) Foutz, and Sherrie Ann (Bruce) Slack; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-daughter, Barbara; and sisters, Elouise Montague and Zola Graff.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2015 from 6-8 pm Sunday at the Dwayne R. Spence Funeral Home, 650 W. Waterloo St., Canal Winchester.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Ephraim 1 st Ward Chapel, 450 North 200 West, Ephraim, UT. Friends may call from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Ephraim Park Cemetery with military rites by the Manti American Legion Post #31.
