Glen Foote
Ephraim, Utah
Glen Lamont Foote passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on 19 March 2024. He was 85 years old. Glen was born in Nephi on 9 May 1938 to Chester Franklin and Elnora Louisa Carter Foote. A preemie, Glen was kept in a shoebox with oxygen by the stove until he was out of danger. In fact, he often said he had the first oxygenated incubator in Nephi! Glen was the 5th of 6 children born to the family. The early part of his life was split between the family home in Nephi and the ranch out on Utah’s West Desert near the Nevada border. One of Glen’s jobs as a young boy on the ranch was to collect the mail on a weekly basis. He would pack a lunch, saddle a horse, and take all day to get to the mailbox and back. Another of his jobs on the ranch was to bring the cattle in each evening, and hunt for the dogs’ dinner at the same time. He was sent out with a .22 rifle and two bullets. If he shot two rabbits, each dog got one. If he shot one rabbit, the dogs had to share. Glen was the epitome of a “jack of all trades”. He could, quite literally, turn his hand to anything. He often made his own tools, when the one he wanted didn’t exist. He was an expert at the art of sourdough, making everything from bread, to waffles, to pancakes, to biscuits, and chocolate chip cookies. When asked how much flour to add, or other ingredients, his response was always, “Well, add some, then mix it till it feels right!” Glen joined the Utah National Guard following the Korean War, and served for 9 years. Later, when both his sons were also in the National Guard, he rejoined, and completed his 20 years of service. Glen met the love of his life, Pat Ashton, on a blind date in the late 1950s, and they were married 12 May 1960. A year later, they were sealed in the Manti temple. They were the parents of 4 children, foster parents to several others, and unofficial parents/grandparents to countless more. He is preceded in death by his sweetheart Pat; children: Rodney and Kris; parents; and all of his siblings. He is survived by his sons: James (Elizabeth) Foote, and Robert (Carol) Foote; six grandchildren: Nolan (Kimberly) Foote, Nathan Foote, Colby (AnnGee) Foote, Jason Foote, Katie (Dallin) Larsen, and Trevor (Avery) Foote; and four great-grandchildren: Adelyn Foote, Desmond Larsen, Cedar Larsen, Dean Foote, plus another one on the way. Cremation will be held in the Magleby Mortuary Cremation Center. A memorial service will be held on Monday, 25 March 2024 at 12:00 Noon in the Ephraim 3rd Ward, 400 East Center Street, Ephraim, Utah. A private interment will be held at a later date. Funeral Directors, Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti. Online guestbook at www.maglebymortuary.com
